Will I own my website after it’s designed and launched?

In almost all cases, yes, you will own your website once the project is completed and paid for. Standard practice is that the website (code, graphics, content) becomes the client’s property as outlined in the contract. We always recommend reviewing the contract terms to be sure if you choose another agency besides SVZ – some agencies might retain ownership of certain proprietary code or licensed assets until payment is fulfilled, but that’s usually just a formality. At SVZ once you’ve settled the final project invoice, you will have full rights to the site. What this means is you can host it wherever you want, make further changes, or even have another developer or agency work on it in the future.

However, do clarify a few things:

• Design files and source assets: Ensure the agreement says you get the source design files (e.g. Figma/Adobe files) and not just the published website. Most agencies hand these over. At SVZ We ensure all source files are owned by the client + all IP.
• CMS and Tools: If your site is built on a platform (like Webflow, WordPress, etc.), you’ll likely get administrator access to those accounts upon handoff and help setting up you own enterprise or self-serve account. Be aware if there are recurring fees (SLA’s for hosting, plugins, etc.) – those become your responsibility once the site is handed-off to you.
• Portfolio use: SVZ and other agencies often requires the right to showcase your website in their portfolio, but that doesn’t affect your ownership (it’s actually good for you – free publicity!).

So after launch, it’s your baby.  At SVZ, we make it clear that our clients have 100% ownership of their sites and content. We even assist with the transition – for example, we will transfer the project to your own Webflow workspace or provide the full codebase if it’s a custom build, ensuring you’re in control. Our goal is to empower you with a site you own and can evolve as your company grows.
